Message from the Principal

Welcome to Southwell Primary School!

Situated in the heart of Hamilton Hill, Southwell Primary is more than just a school — it’s a community where students, families, and staff work together to create something truly special. We’re a small school with a big heart, catering to children from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our dedicated team is passionate about providing a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where every student can thrive.

At Southwell, we believe in the power of connection. With small class sizes and a personalised approach, our teachers collaborate across year levels to ensure every child gets the attention they deserve. We’re committed to building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy, using evidence-based programs like 'Talk for Writing' and 'Sounds Write' to support student success. Our specialist programs in Science, Music, Noongar language, and Physical Education give students the opportunity to explore their interests and talents in purpose-built spaces designed to inspire creativity and growth.

We’re proud to celebrate the rich diversity of our community, with more than half of our students identifying as Indigenous and many others bringing unique cultural and linguistic perspectives to our school. This diversity is our strength, and we embrace it through partnerships with families, local organisations, and local partnerships that enhance cultural connections and learning. Together, we ensure that learning is meaningful, culturally responsive, and connected to the world around us.

At Southwell, we know that a child’s wellbeing is key to their success. That’s why we prioritise creating a safe and caring environment where students feel confident to take risks, make mistakes, and grow. Through our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework, we encourage our students to be Southwell STARs by being Safe, Taking responsibility, Aspiring, and showing Respect. These values guide our expectations and help us build a positive school culture where every child can shine.

Our school vision is brought to life in everything we do: fostering initiative, citizenship, sportsmanship, and integrity. These values are reflected in our emblem and guide us as we support our students to become confident, capable adults who are ready to make their mark on the world.

We’re also proud to share our site with the School of Special Educational Needs: Sensory (SSEN:S), which provides vital support for young children with hearing and vision impairments. This partnership enriches our community and reflects our commitment to inclusion and diversity.

Whether you’re a current family or new to the area, we invite you to join the Southwell family. Together, let’s make every day a positive step towards a bright future for our students.

Warm regards,
Naomi Greaves
Principal
